Understanding the Social Dynamics of Zakat Contribution: A Qualitative Perspective
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study explores the intricate social dynamics surrounding zakat contribution through a qualitative lens, aiming to understand the multifaceted motivations, challenges, and impacts associated with this Islamic practice. Through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions with diverse stakeholders, the research uncovers the personal, religious, and socio-economic factors that drive individuals and communities to contribute zakat. It reveals that while zakat is deeply rooted in religious obligation, it is also influenced by social norms, peer pressure, and the desire for social recognition. The study highlights the critical role of zakat in promoting social cohesion, reducing economic inequality, and fostering community solidarity. However, it also identifies significant challenges in the distribution process, including issues of transparency, equitable targeting, and the need for improved management of zakat funds. The findings suggest that a deeper understanding of the social context in which zakat operates is essential for enhancing its effectiveness and ensuring that it meets its intended social and religious objectives. This abstract succinctly outlines the research focus, methodology, key findings, and implications of a study on the social dynamics of zakat contribution.
